Duo helps families choose assisted-living care right for them
Pam Foti speaks from personal experience when she talks to families about how overwhelming the process of relocating an elderly loved one can be — and how her knowledge can be used to their benefit.
"We have nothing but empathy for what these families are going through," said Pam, a long-term care industry veteran, who, earlier this year, launched Vesta Senior Network with her business partner, Jenny Wagner.
"Years ago, my mother and aunt — on their own — had to find a home for my grandmother when she couldn't live independently anymore. It was a stressful time for us, and something Jenny and I strive to alleviate for other families as they transition their family member to a new home."
Acting as "matchmakers," the Wauwatosa-based consultants use their vast sales and marketing backgrounds to guide families through the maze of Milwaukee-area senior citizen housing options.
"Vesta Senior Network serves both the families' and assisted-living facilities' best interests," Jenny said. "We're the residences' people on the street and the families' information resource, due to the amount of time we've spent canvassing the area. There are so many accommodations available, but we cut through the excess to identify the best assisted-living residences and independent-living apartments that fit their criteria."
Pam and Jenny — who are paid by the residences that accept their referrals — help families narrow the list of choices with a series of questions intended to pinpoint personal, medical and financial needs.
The pair subsequently uses this information to identify two or three suggested residential facilities.
"Vesta Senior Network directs families through every phase of the transition process — including touring facilities with them and recommending attorneys, Realtors and financial advisors," Pam said. "We meet with so many people who are fearful of that next step because they have negative perceptions about assisted-living facilities. It's great to see the weight of the world lift off their shoulders when we say that we work with families like them every day and can help them, too. We'll continue working with them until they're completely satisfied with their final decision."
